This session gave a general introduction to data, before going on to explore how data is used to inform policy and practice. There was discussion on key issues within the context of the work of the Academic Enhancement Team. We worked in small groups to experience and play with methods of storytelling to unpack insights, knowledge and narratives generated by looking deeply into data sets. We used Padlet to record the group d discussions you can find the link above. In reflection I did find this session became very political with people views on this topic. which is not my sorta cup of tea to chat about.

These are the tasks that we had to do in our groups

  • DONUT Acronym
  • How does data make you feel, use an emoji, image, word, whatever
  • Data Poetics: Haiku
  • Data Poetics: Limerick
  • Data stories – what do you interpret from the data?
  • As a breakout group, what interventions, policies and connections did you discuss?
  • Feeling about data from the chat

Data stories – what do you interpret from the data?

This was a slide that had some data that showed the different ethnic groups and the amount that had got firsts over six years the graph showed that there was a increase every year of all ethnic groups they’ve got firsts this is what I interpret from the data. That there is a steady rise of students getting firsts. this indercates that the teaching standards have risen.
